Why Summer Might Be the Right Time to Start Therapy

Starting therapy is often something we think about for a long time before reaching out.

There can be uncertainty about whether therapy is needed, anxiety about taking that first step, or simply the challenge of fitting one more thing into an already busy life.

Summer can create a little more space.

Sometimes it's the first time all year that we notice how much we've been carrying.

While summer isn't stress-free, the slower pace can make it easier to focus on ourselves, our relationships, and our wellbeing.

If reaching out for support has been sitting in the back of your mind, here are a few reasons to take that next step this summer.

More nervous system capacity. When life feels a little less demanding, there's often more room for reflection, healing, and growth—not just getting through the day.

More opportunity to practice new skills. Whether it's managing anxiety, setting boundaries, navigating emotions, or improving communication, new skills tend to stick better when we have time to use them.

More flexibility. Family, school, and work schedules often allow for greater consistency with appointments and fewer scheduling challenges.

Support before fall. Starting now means tools, routines, and supports are already in place before school, activities, and busy schedules return.

A smoother transition for kids and teens. Many children and teens experience increased stress, anxiety, emotional challenges, and social pressures during the school year. Beginning support in the summer gives them time to build confidence and coping skills before September arrives.

And perhaps most importantly...

Why wait?

Imagine feeling better sooner. You don't have to keep managing, struggling, or carrying it all on your own. Support doesn't have to be something we save for a crisis. Sometimes the most meaningful changes happen when we choose to pay attention to ourselves before things become overwhelming.
