Wondering if your child might need extra support?

You know your child best. Sometimes it’s obvious that something is wrong. Other times, you just know that everyday life seems harder than it should.

Parents often reach out when they’re noticing:

  • Frequent meltdowns, anger or emotional outbursts

  • Anxiety, worries, fears or school avoidance

  • Defiance, arguing or behaviour that feels hard to manage

  • Trouble focusing, regulating or coping with change

  • Low self-esteem, perfectionism or social withdrawal

  • Trauma, grief or difficult experiences affecting everyday life

  • Sleep problems, stomach aches or other signs of stress

  • A child or teen who seems overwhelmed but can’t explain why

You don’t need to know exactly what’s going on before reaching out.

A free consultation can help you figure out what kind of support may make sense.

Therapy designed for the way kids actually communicate

Kids don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling.

That’s why we don’t expect them to simply sit down and “talk it out.”

At Valley Art Therapy, we use art, play, movement, body-based approaches and talk therapy to help children and teens express what’s going on, understand their emotions and build practical ways to cope.

Depending on your child’s needs, therapy may incorporate approaches such as Art Therapy, Play & Expressive Arts Therapy, EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care.

The goal isn’t to make your child fit one particular kind of therapy.

It’s to find the approach that helps your child feel safe enough to engage, process what they’re experiencing and develop skills they can use outside the therapy room.

We support kids and teens with all kinds of needs

We work with children ages 3–12 and teens ages 13–18, including neurodivergent kids and teens with ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities or learning differences.

Families come to us for support with anxiety, emotional regulation, behaviour, trauma, grief, school challenges, confidence, relationships and major life transitions.

Your child does not need a diagnosis to begin therapy.

Not sure whether we're the right fit? That's exactly what the free consultation is for.

Just as importantly, we genuinely enjoy working with kids and teens.

Because effective therapy isn’t only about the technique being used. Your child needs to feel safe, understood and comfortable with the person sitting across from them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need a diagnosis?

No. You do not need a diagnosis or referral to reach out for therapy.

What happens during the free consultation?

We’ll talk briefly about what you’ve been noticing, what you're hoping to get support with and whether one of our therapists may be a good fit. You’ll also have a chance to ask questions before deciding whether you'd like to move forward.

What if my child doesn't like talking about their feelings?

That’s very common — and one reason we use more than traditional talk therapy. Art, play, movement and body-based approaches can give kids other ways to communicate and engage.

Do you work with neurodivergent children?

Yes. We support neurodivergent kids and teens, including children with ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities and learning differences.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes. Online sessions are available across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

I'm not sure what type of therapy my child needs. Is that okay?

Absolutely. You don't need to choose a therapy modality before reaching out. We can help determine what approach and therapist may be the best fit.
