Therapy for Grief

Finding your way through loss, change, and transition.

When Life Changes and Nothing Feels the Same

Grief shows up in many ways. It might come after the death of someone you love, the end of a relationship, a family transition, or the quiet loss of who you once were. Sometimes it’s a slow ache. Other times it crashes in like a wave when you least expect it.

You might be doing your best to keep life moving—showing up for work, for your kids, for others—while inside you’re standing in the space where everything changed. Grief isn’t just an emotion; it’s something you feel in your body, your thoughts, and your daily rhythms. It doesn’t follow stages or timelines. It follows love, and the meaning this loss holds for you.

At Valley Art Therapy, we offer therapy and grief coaching to support you in finding your footing again—gently, at your own pace.

How Grief Therapy Can Look and Feel

When you’re in the middle of grief, your world has changed—and no one else quite understands how. Even getting through the day can take everything you have.

Grief therapy isn’t about fixing pain—it’s about creating space for it. Some sessions may feel emotional; others quiet or reflective. You may leave feeling lighter, clearer, or simply more able to breathe. All of it is part of healing.

And you don’t have to face it alone. There’s no “doing grief right,” no timeline, and no expectation to be ready for anything more than showing up as you are. We’ll move slowly, check in often, and find a rhythm that feels safe and bearable as we walk through this together.

A session might include:

  • Talking through moments or memories that feel stuck or unfinished

  • Learning small grounding tools for when a wave of emotion hits unexpectedly

  • Sitting quietly with someone who can hold your story without needing to fix it

  • Finding gentle ways to talk about loss with your children or family

  • Honouring your loved one or your loss through art, remembering, or reflection

Each session is guided by what feels right for you. Some days we’ll simply hold space; other days, you may feel ready to explore meaning or connection. Wherever you are, therapy offers a place to be met—to rest, to release, and to remember that even in deep loss, moments of ease and healing are still possible.

Who We Work With

2.png

We support kids, teens, and adults grieving in all forms—death, divorce, illness, miscarriage, fertility struggles, life transitions, and other moments of loss.

Some come because they want to better support a grieving child or teen. Others reach out because it’s finally time to make space for their own healing.

Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to carry it alone.

What to Expect

When you reach out, you don’t have to know exactly what kind of support you need—just that you don’t want to keep carrying this alone. We’ll help you find what fits best for where you are right now.

Grief therapy can help when loss feels complicated, heavy, or tangled up with anxiety, trauma, or past experiences. It provides a safe place to process emotions, understand what’s happening in your mind and body, and slowly build steadier ground.

Grief coaching offers a more forward-focused approach. It’s about integrating loss into your life and exploring what comes next—rebuilding routines, identity, and purpose while staying connected to who or what you’ve lost.

Both paths are gentle and collaborative. Some people begin with therapy and later move into coaching; others weave both together. You’re always in control of the pace and direction.

In your first sessions, we’ll simply talk about what’s been happening, what’s feeling hard, and what kind of support would help most. You don’t have to have the right words—or any words at all. We’ll start with care, safety, and understanding.

Over time, this process can help you carry your grief with more ease, find meaning in the midst of change, and begin to reconnect with life in a way that feels authentic and whole.
